"4 day miracle"

Hey Everyone!
WOW! This week has been a pretty intense time for me! It's been great and the work's been awesome but I guess I'll just get started right into it. So, actually on the authorized missionary card I carry around with me wherever I go that says I am a Missionary for the Church and that I am allowed to proselyte until January 11, 2012 and moves day is January 12, both of next year. Elder Merrill was going over things with President Chan and talking about next year's moves and it turns out that we are only allowed to go 30 days earlier or later from our assigned date on our card. We didn't realize that, nor anyone from our MTC District realized that. So, we all planned to just take February 23 or 24, whenever it was, because that was the move right after our actual 2 year mark. However, like I said, we're only allowed to go 30 days earlier or later from what our card says. Everyone in my District is the exact same. We honestly had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER! I am SOOOO sorry guys...I want to stay...I really do but this is something that's honestly just out of anyone's control. It's interesting because a couple of weeks ago when I was in the Temple, I was praying while I was in the Celestial Room about my mission and confirming if when I go home is the right date, like I always do, and for some reason, January 12 was popping into my head for some reason. I had NO IDEA why! Seriously, it was the weirdest thing! I prayed again, and again, and again, and everytime it was always the same answer. I now know why. Doubting the Holy Ghost is really NOT a good thing to do. We should ALWAYS trust His promptings and ACT on them immediately. That's something HUGE I've learned on my mission. Sooo, what I'm trying to say is that my mission will be ending on that moves day, which is JANUARY 12...I'm kinda bummed, because I want to stay...I LOVE helping these people come unto Christ! It's the greatest thing in the world! However, I know it must come to an end. I love honestly EVERYTHING about my mission, and wouldn't change any of it for anything! I know this is what the Lord wants, it's what the Church wants, and who knows, maybe it's what we want as well...but we just don't yet know it. So, I first off, would like to apologize if I've inconvienced any of you with other plans if you were planning on attending my homecoming, or anything of the sort. Steph, I'm SOOO sorry I'm messing the time up for you AGAIN and your wedding. I feel horrible about it. I really do. I've told tons of missionaries about how long you've had to wait, and then you planned it for when you thought I was going home, and now you have to change it. They think you're just AMAZING by the way for waiting. They're right. Mom and Dad, I'm sorry if you guys had already booked tickets or anything, or even a hotel...I would still REALLY love for you guys to come. It would mean so much to me. I want you guys to experience a taste of what I have since I've been away. I love you guys so much and I'm so grateful for your support of me out here and doing this work in which we are all engaged in. On another note, Mike got Baptized! YEAH! It was an awesome Baptism and right before he entered the font, the tears in his eyes came and you could tell, he'd been waiting for this day to come for a long long time. Elder Wing and I have called it, our "4 day miracle!" We taught him everything from Lesson 1 to Lesson 4, commitments involved as well as reviewing and having the Baptismal Interview. He is such an amazing kid and will go a long way in the Church. I can easily see him serving a Mission and some day finding himself in the Temple with someone who has the same standards as he does. What an amazing experience it is to witness and be involved in someone partaking of the blessings of Baptism and those that follow. Truly indescribable. Our Bishop had Baptized him because we felt that Bishop had done so much to help keep him coming to Church and looking after him, since he is President of the Priest Quorom, throughout these past 2-3 years. His parents still don't entirely approve but that doesn't bother us, nor him, because we all know that it's only a matter of time, whether it be in this life or the next but he WILL live with his family for time and eterntiy through participating in the sacred ordinances of the Temple. Oh man, there was so much more we did this week, but I really don't have time to share it all. I'm not THAT fast at typing. We had another visit from some General Authorities! The 2nd Councelor in the General Young Men's Presidency, the General Sunday School President, as well as the Asia Area Presidency: Elder Gong, Elder Watson, and President Perkins (all 70) came to visit the entire mission, and shared on how we can improve the work here in the China, Hong Kong Mission. It was an INCREDIBLE visit! We are so blessed as a mission to have such amazing opportunities to enjoy the presence of these wonderful men and partake of their words and sharings on how we can improve. Elder Wing and I have been so busy with the Zone, IT'S CRAZY! We've been at meetings every single day this week at Kowloon Tong and we're loving this knowledge and advice we're receiving! It's definitely working!
Well, lastly, I would just like to wish you a VERY HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY MOM!!! I love you so very very much and once again, I'm sorry I'm not there to celebrate with you, but just know that I am and always will be there in heart. I love you and I am forever grateful for you and your continuous love and charity. YOU REALLY ARE THE GREATEST MOM! Also, thanks for the shirts Susan! I can't believe you went up to celebrate with them! That's sweet! I really am grateful for the shirts by the way! They make a WORLD of difference! Thank you so much! I'll be waiting for that package by the way. Thanks guys you're the best! Until next week...Do what you do!

Baptism this Sunday

Hey Everyone!
August 24, 2011
Boy has this week flown by or what! It's good to know it's not only hot here but it's hittin you guys as well! Sometimes I think ALL the hot weather just decides to hit ONLY Hong Kong and nowhere else but that's good to know you guys have it too. Haha! Well, how have ya'll been? It's certainly been another quick week over here for me! I'll just get started right into this one. The Stake President over the New T's Stake is a Native. He has to be if he's the Stake President, I would assume at least. He's awesome and such a humble, soft spoken guy. Hey, kinda like our Stake President now as well as our previous one! I guess that's a must for all Stake Presidents. Lately, we've been playing a lot of ball with one of his sons. He's 16 years-old and is WAY TIGHT with Elder Wing and I. He's never been closer with any Missionaries in his life before and we're so lucky to start that relationship with the Young Men. So then even future Missionaries that serve here will already have that. That's one thing we always focus on when we go to areas is the relationship with the youth, Young Men especially because they are the future Missionaries of the Church, and we are their examples right now. We really are so blessed to have that though with him. He sometimes just calls us to see if we need any help with lessons during the day or if he can come finding with us or if we wanna go and play ball with him that night. He really is quite amazing! Seriously, I am so grateful for you guys. You really have no idea! The changes in the Ward sound pretty intense! I can't believe there's been THAT much has happened! Oh man, I remember it just as if it were yesterday and would drive to the Church way early in the morning and Brother Richards would give an awesome lesson, which would change the lookout on my whole day. Good times. That's funny that you mentioned Warm Beach (First week of intense football training) because I was honestly just thinking about that this past week. I think about football SO MUCH out here and that brotherhood that was formed from those long, hard days out on the field. I wanted to kill myself it was so hard sometimes but now that I look back on it, it was SOOO worth it! Thanks for stickin it out with me guys! Your support was much needed then and you guys answered the call better than imagined. So, just really quickly, my P-day actually changed, just for next week only, to Wednesday. So, I'll be e-mailing then. Just make sure that you guys send your e-mail a day early and then I can respond to it. Also, I don't know if you guys remember, but a while ago I said there was a kid that was waiting to turn 18 to be baptized, well some things came up and he wasn't able to do it then. He's getting baptized on Sunday! YEAH! We're thinking of having a Young Men baptize him. I'll let you know all about it next week! I love you guys so much! Have an OUTSTANDING WEEK! LOVE YOU!

Church Leaders are so inspired

Hey Everyone! August 18,2011
I'm so glad to hear you all had an awesome week! Mom, girls camp sounds like it was, well, tiring but I'm sure you had a great time and would do it again in a heartbeat. I'm really sorry to hear about your condition, Steph. I know the Lord is only giving you this trial because he knows you can overcome it with his help and it's nothing you can't not handle. I know this is true. There have been sooo many times out here that I've felt like I've had too much to do or haven't felt worthy enough to perform a certain task but that means nothing to the Lord. If we trust in Him and know that He will ALWAYS help us, no matter what, we have nothing to fear. I love ya Steph! Keep going and add oil! Lans Drake's farewell sounds like it was pretty sweet. I honestly remember mine like it was just a few months ago...no joke! I can't even talk about where I think the time's gone because there's just no point. I was so happy to hear about Calvin and how he's been! Each day, I think of him and how amazing it truly is that he's out doing the same exact thing I'm doing here in Hong Kong. A few years ago, he didn't even know the Church existed, and now he's spreading the word like wildfire! He's always been such an amazing example to me, and will continue to be. My week was pretty awesome! Last Sunday, Elder Wing and I decided to help out the Butterfly Elders with a Ward Find they were holding. It was such a humbling experience, because we could've as easily just as gone finding in our area but for some reason we really felt a spiritual impression that said, "forgot about your own area and your own companionship for a bit, and go help your Zone." So we did. We ended up finding 2 new investigators for them and teaching them on the street. I know that those spiritual promptings aren't just there as suggestions. They're there to really help us know what is best and what decisions to make. This past Monday, we also had a great opportunity to visit with our Stake President at his home. It's my first time to ever visit with the Stake President of a Stake, except when I was in Macau, because President Chan is also the Stake President of Macau but still way cool. We talked about a lot of things the Stake has been doing very well as well as some areas it could improve in. Seriously, it was so amazing to look into this man's eyes and see the revelation he was receiving on behalf of the Stake concerning the Missionary Work going on there. I have a Testimony of Leaders of the Church and know that they truly are called for a special reason. Others may not know why, or the leader themself may not know why, but the Lord does and that's what matters. Elder Wing and I are so privileged to be working side-by-side with such an amazing man. We can't wait to get started on all the many things we discussed and we know it really is the will of the Lord for us to carry these things out. I'm very grateful for this opportunity of a lifetime to serve our Lord, Savior, and Redeemer, even Jesus Christ. I firmly believe it really is Him whom we serve. Through Him, nothing is impossible and we never have anything to fear. I love you all so much. Thanks for your time this week. Sorry if this one's kinda lame and short but I don't have a ton of time to e-mail today. We have to go get another summer missionary Elder Wing and I are receiving today at Kowloon Tong. I'll tell ya all about him next week. Hopefully he likes ball as well...I love you guys! Keep going! Until next week...Do what you do!
